Among the many transmission structures, gear transmission and pulley transmission are often compared by enterprises to see which one has more advantages.The appearance of gear transmission was earlier, it has been already fully applied at the end of the 19th century, and then pulley transmission came to the world. As for which of them is better, let’s have a look.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of gear transmission?
Currently the industry generally believes that gear transmission is more accurate than V-pulley transmission, and performs well in many details:
1. The instantaneous transmission ratio is constant, and the transmission is accurate and stable;
2. Compact structure and reliable performance;
3. Large transmission power, large transmission ratio and long service life;
Actually there are many limitations of gear transmission. For example, if the better accuracy and transmission efficiency need to be achieved, then the gear must be manufactured much precisely, which requires high standards of the production process and production equipment. In addition, high requirements for lubrication and maintenance cost also need to be considered by the enterprises. What’s more, the teeth of the gear are relatively fragile, so once they are overloaded, the V-pulley transmission can make up for the disadvantage of the gear transmission.
Due to the intractable problems of gear transmission, the V pulley transmission has appeared, which can make up for the disadvantage of gear transmission.
1. Simple structure, suitable for transmission with large center distance between two axes;
2. The transmission is smooth and noiseless, and it can buffer and absorb vibration;
3. When overloaded, the belt will slip on the pulley, which can prevent the damage of weak parts and play a role in protection;
It will be damaged, and requires high standard of the production environment.
The efficiency of the V-pulley transmission is also improving
In terms of efficiency, many introductions believe that the efficiency of gear transmission is higher than that of pulley transmission. And truly in practice, conventional gear drives are better than the pulley drives.Excellent gear transmission efficiency can reach 98 to 99%, while pulley transmission is generally 94 to 98%. However, in the 1990s, some scholars pointed out in “Transmission Technology” that a well-designed pulley can also achieve an efficiency of 99%, which depends on the manufacturer’s design and manufacturing level.
In the current industrial area, V pulley transmission is more used in large equipment and high-load machines, while gear transmission is more applied in precision manufacturing. As a popular transmission method, the European standard V-pulleys that we produce are often used in mining machines, various pumps, motors and fans.
